The highly anticipated iTouch game Rolando 2 finally went live just before 2pm PST today (which is 9am on the 3rd of July NZ time!) to a huge collective sigh of relief!

The game had been marketed as having a release date of July 1st, a date that it completely missed for as yet unknown reasons. This sparked unprecedented internet chatter on the topic with the Touch Arcade forum thread on the matter being nailed with 1,980 posts in the 24 hours leading up to the release! That's an average of one post every 44 seconds for an entire day...

Much of the discussion turned towards why Rolando 2 hadn't been released and why publishers ngmoco were remaining silent (while at the same time found to be silently watching the discussion!) as July the 1st began to draw to a close in various parts of the world. When the virtual mob realised they weren't going to see their beloved game on July the 1st many began to sharpen their pitchforks while the more tolerant amongst them preached for calm.

Finally at 11:30pm PST ngmoco twittered that they were having issues, were very sorry and were working as hard as possible to get the game out. This seemed to confirm that the game wouldn't come out on the first but did seem to indicate it would come out sometime on the 2nd so the mob resigned themselves to further wait and continued to post.

All manner of things came up in the discussion: Michael Jackson, hot dogs, "Snuggys", Rolando Jelly, donut eating Rolandos  and Stewie Griffin's famous sexy parties, to name but a few!

Now that the game has been released the aforementioned thread has been locked and the release thread is getting reasonable interest as the fans dive into the new game they have been waiting so long for! No doubt the forums will come alive again soon with first impressions. A few have already baulked at the US$10 price tag, further proof that users have come to expect apps for a couple of bucks regardless of quality, replayability and length.

My initial impressions of the game are very positive but the reviews I have seen suggest that the best comes later in the game so I'll have to wait till the weekend to really get stuck into it :)

Wow! Isn't it amazing that $10 is very cheap for a quality game that provides hours of gameplay, yet there is so much outrage at the price!  You could image that if the same game were on the DS, it would be going for a lot more than $10 (and be lower quality).  It's pretty sad to see how price expectations on the App Store have been driven so low...
